Following the triumphant inauguration of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) exhibition hall in 1993, 2 years after the 1991 1st Blueprint for the Development of the Aerospace Industry in Malaysia, a vision for a world-class hospitality landmark was conceived. Under a government initiative, construction began in August 1996, culminating in the grand opening in June 1997, perfectly timed for LIMA 1998.
Initially christened Hotel Helang, the property underwent several transformations, becoming One Hotel and subsequently Century Hotel. Throughout its storied past, the esteemed Sheraton Langkawi managed the hotel from 1993, alongside its sister establishments: Delima Resort (1993), Langkasuka (1994), and Sheraton Langkawi.
